Within the Master in Water Science and Engineering, a double degree in Continental Water Sustainability is offered in cooperation with the University of Strasbourg.
The double degree combines technical knowledge derived from water-related engineering and natural sciences with social sciences to create a well-rounded interdisciplinary graduate profile. The focus is set on a holistic approach to study and protect hydrosystems. At KIT future graduates will be imparted the fundamental physical knowledge to understand and analyse hydrosystems, while at the university of Strasburg students will learn how to manage and govern these systems not only from an ecological but also socio-political point of view.
The approach is problem-solving oriented with the students being trained in thinking across disciplines from river engineering, hydrology and ecology to human and social sciences in order to develop sustainable solutions for hydrosystems which consider both nature and society. Via interdisciplinary projects, the development of communication and project-management skills, graduates will have a versatile profile allowing them to work for public administrations, the private sector and international organizations in the water sector.
The study plan with the list of compulsory courses to be taken at KIT and Strasbourg is available on the UNISTRA webpage. For an overview of courses offered only at KIT within the double degree have also a look here.
